INSTITUTE FOR BLIND. , RETIREMENT AFTER 40 YEARS. Changes in the staff nt the Xew Zealand Institute for the Blind were reviewed liy the chairmen of trustees. Mr. J. A. HutrhiiiJtnn, at the minimi meeting of contributor* held yesterday. "The resignation of the director, Sir C'httha Mackenzie, wkd received end wan accepted with regret by the board." Mr. Hutchineon said. "There is no need for me to mention the wonderful services rendered by Sir C'lntha during the years he held the position, of director.' , Mr. J. E. Broadfoot had been appointed acting-director. He had had over 13 years' experience of the various activities of the institute. The board wae able to report that good progress wal being made. Mies M. B. Law, the hesvlmistress. had retired after 40 years in the school, and Mr. Hiitchiiwson wae pleaded to report that in view nf her lonjr service, the institute, with the approval of the Minister of Education, had given her a year's leave of absence on full pay. The Government, recognising Miss Law's excellent service, had arranged a special retiring allowance. Mr. M. M. V. Laseron had taken her place. Mis* It. D. Evans had been appointed resident assistant teacher, and Mr. D. L. Algie had rejoined the teaching etaff, replacing the Rev. E. Chitty, who had been appointed official visitor to the outside blind. Reference wae aleo made to the death of Mr. J, B. ttenry, a trustee for over live years, and to the retirement of Mr. R. H. Miller, who had given 40 years' service to the institute. It was intended to meet him at an early date and recognise his gleftt services In a fitting manner.
