EDUCATION BOARD COMPLAINT.
Information that adults not connected with schools were being given rides in school busee wa« ventilated at the Auckland Educational Board this morning. Mr. W. I. Bowyer said that a letter from tho Education Department had been received by one headmaster stating that in certain cases, school buses were to be allowed to carry adults not connected' with schools, provided that those persons signed an indemnity form. Headmasters, he said, had information from the Department about which the hoard knew nothing® That was not right. Further, it was questionable whether the signing of any Indemnity form would save the board from liability for damages arising out i.f an accident.
In one particular case of which he had knowledge, a taxi driver had' kept an appointment made by some persons living out of the town. When'he had arrived at the place where he was to
pick them up, they were not there. Subsequently he met them in tho town, end on Reeking an explanation was informed that they had been picked tip by the school bus. That did not look like the "certain ,, cases permitted by the Department.
The chairman. Mr. W. J. Campbell, said that the board knew of other instances where tho Department had communicated directly with headmasters concerning school buses instead of such communications going through the board.
It was decided to ask the Department to explain the particular case, and also to request that in future all communications regarding school buses should bfe forwarded through the board.
