PAINS IN CHEST.
COLLAPSED AT WORK.
DEATH OF LABOURER,
Evidence that prior to Ilia collapse and death whilst at work on Monday afternoon Ernest Ives. labourer, had complained of a terrible p*i n in his chest was given by a workmate, Walter lulford, at an inquest held by the coroner. Mr. F. K. Hunt, this morning. The deceased Was a Tiiarried man, 06, and resided at 10, Walker's Road, Point Chevalier. Walter Pulford e,ai3 that on occasions previous to Monday last the deceased had complained of pains in his chest. Deceased fttid witness wefe employed on the State housing scheme and were clearing rocks from a section at the corner of Duke Street and Dominion Road on Monday afternoon. About four o'clock witness heard deceased call out and then saw him fall to the ground. Dr. Dreadon was sent for and on arrival found deceased was dead. Dr. W. Gilniour, who made a postmortem, said death was due to heart failure. In returning a verdict in accordance with Dr. Oilmour's finding, the coroner said the case was a typical one of a man who died suddenly whilst at work and it emphasised the importance of holding a post-mortem and inquest in tucb. cases.
