ST. JOHN AMBULANCE. , Over 1600 patients were carried to c; from hospital during the quarter ended January 31 • by St. John 'ambulances, according to figures, presented at- a meeting of the executive committee of the St. John Ambulance Association at Auckland last evening. Mr,.C. J, chairman, presided. Transfers from one hospital depart' ment to another during the quarter _, accounted for 1050 ambulanco trips, whilo the total milage covered by' ambulances was 20,303 miles. District nurses covered approximately 2100 miles in the course of making over 1000 visits to the homes of poor patients during January • alone. The number of cases treated on the wharves approached the 2000 mark. Most cii.' these cases were dressings applied to minor injuries, but ambulance men stationed on the wharf wore kept busy. Jn this connection it was pointed out this morning that eomo fifty cases of minor mlsihaps were treated yesterday, while the average daily number was about 30. During January 27 donors were sup« plied by the association's blood transfusion service, It: was pointed out, however, that this did not necessarily mean that 27 Uvea had been saved.
