COMMON ASSAULT.
Addressee to the jury and the sum-ming-up by Mr. Justice Callan were given in the Supreme Court yesterday in the cane in "which Walter Harrison (2.'1), a half-caste Maori labourer, was charged with attempting to commit rape. There were alternative charges of assault with intent to commit rape, indecent assault or common assault.
Mr. Sullivan appeared for the accused, and yir. 11. Meredith conducted the .case for the Crown.
Tlie jury retired at ll.2."» a.m. and returned at. 2.4."> p.m. with a verdict of guilty on the charge of common assault. Sentence \va« deferred.
