ALLEGED PLOTTERS. Explosives Discovered In Police Raids. FATHERS AND SONS CHARGED. United Press Association. —Copyright. (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 7. Police activity in connection with recent bomb outrages is unabated. Visits to a number of houses last night resulted in the discovery of explosives at Manor Park. Two arrests were made. Five hundred detonators and a considerable quantity of gelignite were stolen overnight at a stone quarry at Wirkworth, Derbyshire. When Michael Mason and Joseph Walker were remanded at Liverpool the prosecution intimated that they would be handed over to the metropolitan police and charged with the others in London. Seven others were remanded 'on various charges, among which was I possession of quantities of arms and explosives.
These included James Shannon and his sons, Patrick and John. Charles McCarthy and his son, Thomas, were remanded at Bow Street, charged with possession of numerous explosives, balloons, and alarm clocks fitted with timing apparatus discovered after the search at Manor Park.
SCARE AT STEPNEY. STREET MAN-HOLE BLOWN UP. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, February 7. A series of muffled subterranean explosions and a man-hole shooting up 20 feet, accompanied by flames and dense smoke near Stepney electricity station, alarmed the neighbourhood. Electric lights went out and several windows were cracked. Police threw a cordon round the street. It was later officially stated that the explosion was due to a faulty transformer.
