NEW POLICY.
Federal Government Control Of Aborigines. CREATE NEW DEPARTMENT. (Received 11.30 a.m.) HOBART, this day. A completely new policy for the control of aborigines has been adopted by the Federal Cabinet. The scheme will hinge on the creation of a Native Affairs Department on the lines of the New Guinea and Papuan practices, under the control of a director. The ultimate object of the new policy is to raise the status of the aborigines to qualify them to accept the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship.
