TESTING THE HERDS. DECEMBER RESULTS. The December averages for the New Zealand Co-operative Herd-testing Association show that the 85,137 cows under test averaged 7211b milk, 4.59 test and 33.11b fat. These figures are appreciably below thoee of the past two years, for in December, 1937, the 100,939 cows tested averaged 7761b milk, 4.63 test and 36.01b fat, and in December, 1936. the 106,621 cows averaged 7811b milk, 4.56 test and 33.61b fat. In the latest list of averages the best individual producer was a cow in the Otoiohanga group, with 1211b fat—an easy first, for the next best was 11 lib fat from a cow in the Put arum district. The best her<l average was 521b fat from 56 cows in the Matiere-Ohiira group. Te Awamutu Herds. The horde in Te Awamutu and neighbourhood compare quite favourably with those of other parts of the association's territory, as will be eeen from the following:— Te Awamutu group's 1043 cows averaged 7301b milk, 4.78 test and 3tilb fat. The best herd, 61 cows, averaged 431b fat, and the best cow gave 92ft> fat. The 1292 cows in Te Kawa group averaged (5651b milk, 4.92 test and 331b fat. The beet herd average was 451b fat from 60 cows, and the best individual gave 83R> fat. Paterangi group's 507 cows averaged ?28lb milk, 4.86 test and 351b fat. The best herd, 80 cowe, averaged 401b fat, and the best cow produced 851b fat. Otorohanga group, still the largest in the association with 3577 cows, averaged 7011b milk, 4.59 test and 321b fat. Two herds topped the list with 411b fat, and the best cow gave 1211b fat. The 757 cowe in Hairini group averaged 7141b milk. 4.93 test and 351b fat. The best herd, 78 cows, averaged 421b fat, and the best cow produced 931b fat. The 1633 cows in Kaipaki group averaged 7301b milk, 4.55 test and 331b fat. The best herd average was 491b fat from 44 cows, and the best cow gave Bfilb fat. Kihikihi group's 217.5 cows averaged 7281b milk, 4.72 test and 341b fat. The best herd, 53 cows, averaged 431b fat, and the best individual produced 86lb fat. The Kawhia group's 905 cowe averaged 7691b milk, 4.35 test and 351b fat. The beet herd average was 431b fat from 43 cows, and the best cow gave 721b fat.
