AVONDALE HORSES.

ROTORUA CAKI>IbATBB.

S. G. LINDSAY'S TEAM

The recent rains have had a most beneficial effect on the Avondale tracks. All the work, slow or faet, ie now being undertaken on the outside of the course proper, which is in excellent order. S G. Lindsay has three horses engaged at Rotorua meeting on the first day. In the Waimangu Stakes, a weight-for-age race over six furlonge and 30 yards, the three-year-old Rival may have an opportunity of opening his winning account. He has now had some racing experience and a little improvement on his last display at Ellerelie will make him hard to beat. Rival is a long-striding horse and the turning track at Rotorua may not be to his liking. High Delight, who races in the same ownership as Rival, has proved his worth at the last twb meetings at which he was a runner, and although he has the steadier of 9.0 in the Geyser Handicap, the opposition will have to look to their laurels to head him off. The other 'member of the team is the Bronze Eagle gelding Silver Eagle, who failed to act in the heavy going on his last appearance. He is engaged in the Alokoia Handicap, and given a dry track he will see the journey right out. All three horses do their trainer credit. H. E. Goldfinch will take Vaaleo to Rotorua. This horse thrives well on a light- preparation and he is now looking in first-class trim. The field to oppose him in the Pohutu Highweight is stronger than that which he met in his last start, but on that occasion he had No. 1 saddle cloth. At Rotorua he is on the minimum. Vaaleo should not return home empty handed. , . , Erndale has come in after a fairly lengthy spell and under the guidance of his owner. Mr. W. James, he is thriving well on the work allotted him. Erndale ie at his best when the going is soft, and when he is fully fit for racing another profitable term seeme assured. Another in the same stable is Phildale,. but he did not do so well while spelling. However, he is now building up and is showing signs of improvement. Popeye, who has yet to make hie appearance in public, is doing well under W. Gough's tuition. He is a well-grown sort and attracts attention by his white markings and one white eye. He will eventually race in the interests of Mr. W.

E Slade. Maater Appellant, who km failed to go away satisfactorily in two of his last few starts, is also ooking bright and muscular. With a little luck a winning turn ehould not be far off. W H Maria left Avondale on Thureday last for Hawera with Eastern Heir and Pantheist. He sent Triune and Airam south after the Thames meeting. Triune could not- compete at that meeting on the second day owing to soreness.
