BETTING SYSTEM.
ELLERSLIE MACHINE. ALTERATIONS TO BE MADE. PROVISION' FOR WIX AND PLACE. The committee of the Auckland Racing Club decided yesterday afternoon to alter ite electric totalisator at Ellerslie so that it will be operable for win and place betting. This, of course, will take some time and it is not expected that the work will be completed until the approach of the summer meeting in December. The club has some of the necessary machinery, but more is required and this will have to be obtained from overseas. The Auckland Racing Club had the win-and-place system at Ellerslie in 1933, and after trying it for 12 months reverted to the single-pool system as at that time the system did not seem to be popular with a large number of patrons owing to the small fields. The work will be put in hand at once.
