LOCAL BODIES.

PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD. The fortnightly meeting of the Papatoe toe Town Board was Held last night. Air. L. Kendall presiding over a lull attendance. Traffic Report.—The traffic inspector reported that he had paid particular attention during the last fortnight to cyclists on footpaths and without lights. He had received several complaints about motorists using the footpath in Carruth Road and recommended a poet being placed on the path. The report and recommendation were adopted.

Cemetery.—lt was decided to arrange additional plots at the cemetery. The resignation of the sexton was received, ami a motion of thanks and appreciation was passed. It' was resolved to appoint Mr. Siinins, the parks superintendent, as sexton, subject to hie consent. Works Committee.—The works committee recommended the formation of footpaths in Station Road and WyMie Road. It was resolved that the committee should get a report of the cost. The Mauukau County Council agreed to the maintenance of the surface of Birdwood and Avis Avenues. An application for improvement to the footpath-in Dunator Avenue by the Renown Hall trustees was granted.

Jlailwjnr Bridge.—The district engineer of the Railways Department submitted a plan for alterations to the railway bridge parapet, and it was decided to arrange with the Public Works Department to carry out the work, the cost to be .borne by the Highways Board and the Town Board on a £3 for £1 basis.

Dog Tax Collector.—The town clerk reported that no replies had been received, to the advertisements for the position or dog tax collector, but that the local ranger had agreed to accept the position.

MOUNT BOSK ILL ROAD BOARD.

The Mount Roskill Road Board met last night, the chairman, Mr. C. M. McCullough, presiding. Street Telephone.—Owing to the estimated heavy annual loss on the working of a public telephone at Waikowihai, the i'ost and Telegraph Department intimated that "it could not consider its establishment."

Government Rates.—The State Advances Department intimated that it proposed to pay current rates on occupied properties' (newly erected) prior to the close of the rating year if the 'board would undertake to set off againet future rates any overpayment through error or unoccupancy. The finance committee was requested to report on the proposal. No. 13 Subsidy Scheme. —Advice was received from the Department of Labour that the No. 13 subsidy scheme would be continued beyond the original final date, January 31, but the authorities would be shortly reviewed and regranted according to the value of the works proposed. It was anticipated that the former liberal subsidies would not be available in the future.

Building Permits.—lt was reported that 25 permits, worth £27,0*5, had been issued eince the last meeting of the board. 'There were, it was added, 21 buildings in course of erection in the dieHeavy Traffic Fees.—The Auckland City Council advised that the board's proportion of tkie heavy traffic fees was £728 2/9 Driver* , licensee. —It was reported that drivers' liienses numbered 1740, compared with 1591 tor the same period last year.
