RUNNING LOW.
RIVER SCHEME LOAN MONEY. "PRECARIOUS POSITION." (By Telegraph.—Preaa Association.) HASTINGS, Tuesday. The precarious position of the Ngaruroro River scheme loan was revealed at the Hawke's Bay River Board's monthly meeting at Napier.
"We have enough for about a fortnight," eaid Mr. C Lassen, the chairman, commenting on the necessity for receiving from the State Advances Corporation the balance, £18,200-, of the Ngaruroro River loan. "If the corporation doee no.t take up the loan we will have to close down."
A board member, Mr. H. M. Thompson, said he was the one who reeented the remarks of the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, alleging the board wae "mucking up" the scheme, but now he was inclined to agree with the Minister. Mr. Thompson alleged that the board was wasting money and W»s without a proper plan. This was vigorously denied by the chairman, who answered specific complaints.
