AT WINGATUI.

ALMA GOES WELL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, thia d*y.~ A cold southerly wind at Wingatui this morning was against fast times. The outside of the course proper was open for fast work, also the plough track, but most of the work was done on the former. Astaire and New Note worked well ot«I five furlongs. Violenta, who has done well in her work lately, was sent a mile in 1.52 2-5, the first five furlongs in 1.6 4-5. Green Boa and Spear Thrust finished together at the end of seven furlongs in 1.36 3-5, the last half-mile in 51 4*ss. Niglitwings and Straightdell were to have gone a mile and a quarter. The former started next to the rails and Straightdell picked her up at the nine furlong post. There appeared to be a difference oi opinion .between riders as to whether they were entitled to gallop next to the rails, and as they tinned into the back stretch both pulled to the outside of the course. Timed from the mile P°?i Straightdell ran the eight furlongs in I.® and the last five in 1.9, but after goifig six furlongs Nightwings was pulled up. « was an unsatisfactory gallop. McHeatn ©utjumped and outgalloped Song Boy J» a schooling effort over two hurdles. Jiight Pal and Fancy Phil finished together at the end of five furlongs in 1.8, after ning the first two in 255. Alma concedea over a stone in weight to Counterfugh over a mile run in 1.50 2-5, the first natt taking 57 2-ss. Alma was going much ta« better at the finish. almarch was doing it better than Sea Fox at the end of nail a mile in 525.

Our Pal just, beat Atua Rere over sevrt furlongs in 1.31 on the plough, the iirst four in 52 2-ss. Norseman -was let on with a couple of circuit* on the P'® 0 * He looks weU. Our Empire, with an unnamed three-year-old by Gustavo, too 56s to run half a mile. A number of others were worked. • from half to three-quarter pace.
