INTERESTING EFFORTS. RECEPTION TROTS WELL BISMUTH BUNS HALF IN 1.7. Although no outstanding trial distinguished the training operations at Alexandra Park this morning, a goodly I number of spectators manifested interest in efforts of horses with engagements at - the midsummer meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club, which is to be held at Epeom on Saturday next and on Wednesday, February 13Bismuth, who is in great heart, drew attci tion to his prospects at the fixture when he ran the last half mile of a mile and a half in 1.7. Vanora and Fernbrook Lass, each 1.9. and the two trotters, Reception and Great Surprise, 1.10, were other good performances over a similar distance. The track was in good order and the flags were out 40ft. Bismuth (A. McGarr.v) went off from the mile-and-a-half post and when he reached the mile-and-a-quarter p o l e Worthv Quest (G. Stubbsl, Blue Crest and Ringtrue (W. Fleming) jumped off in that order just in front of him. Worthy Quest continued on in the lead • and finished up a mile and a Quarter in 3.5. Bismuth came home strongly just behind in 3.48 for the mile and a half, the " last half taking 1.7. Looking better than he has done for pome time past, the trotter Bingen Sun (W. Head) was allowed to run along easily over a mile and then a second mile in 2.31. t Great Surprise (L. Laver) went alone over a couple of circuits at an even pace, but Laver then let this promising novice out to get over half a mile in 1.10. He is a very fit horse, but is giving away tfyree seconds in the first race on Saturday. Fernbrook Lass (L. Laver), an Otahuhu . Handicap candidate, went away four seconds in front of Eighteen Carat (C. M. Morrison), from the mile-and-a-half post. Willie Derby IS. M. August) followed two seconds later and Pukemiro (W. Fleming) another second further back. Fernbrook Lass raced along in front on a tight rein throughout the first mile, which was left behind in 2.27, and Willie Derby broke badly just after that to drop completely out of the trial. Fernbrook Lass wa« not extended to continue in the lead and ran the full distance in 3.38, the last half mile taking 1.9. Eighteen Carat was a length* away and Pukemiro (very tired) 10 lengths further back. Vanora Finishes We!!. A trial between Reception (Wheeler), Silk Lady (W. H. Andrews), er (G. Stubbs) and Vanora (L. J. Mahoney) was a keen and informative contest. Reception, trotting perfectly, went off about a second ahead of the pacers, but after half a mile had been covered Silk Lady went to the front to lead over the next four furlongs, the mile taking 2.33. Reception then again got to the lead just ahead of Silk Lady, with Handicapiper a length awav and Vanora, going nicely, just behind. The four were bunched at the turn for home, where Mahoney took Vanora past the others to win in good style in 3.43 for the mile and a half. Vanora ran the last half in 1.9. Silk Lady and Reception were together just behind, and they both look likely to be in the money at the meeting. "others to perform useful tasks were Star Pronto (B. Dyer). Wliitstone (L. Laver), Stargum (W. Head), Top Hand (S. M. August), Kewpie's Bingen (L. Laver). John's Last (A. Bryce), Lucky Love (D. Cook), Don Walla, Gold Circle (A. Bryce) and Auto Bingen (G. Phipps).
