MAORI FOR SENTENCE,
CONDUCTED' bw DEFENCE.
' Conducting his own defence, a Maori, Walter , Hunter, 1 aged 37, .who described himself as a. "music compositor," appeared • before • Mr. Justice Callan in the V Supreme Court. He was charged with breaking and . entering the house of Albert Lawrence Bailey, King Edward Avenue, Epsom, and stealing two gold watches and a chain valued at £35 on December 2, and the house of Edward Macdonalil, Richmond Avenue, and stealing three diamond rings valued at £35 on December 12. A lesser count was that, being a suspected person, lie frequented King Edward Avenue with felonious intent.
The jury returned verdicts of .guilty on both charges j of. breaking and.| entering and theft, and not guilty :on the third/ count. ' Accused-, was -remanded • for. sentence.'
