DIRTY UMBRELLAS.

The newest umbrellas, made of gaily coloured oil silk, have one disadvantage, and that is that they become soiled soon and are difficult' to clean. The smuts, brought down with the rain, that alight on the umbrella adhere obstinately and have to be rubbed hard before they will disappear, which may damage the fabric.

If_ the umbrella is treated with an application of a little olive oil on a soft cloth it will not only preserve the fabric but it will obviate the necessity of any rubbing, as the oil prevents the dirt from getting into the silk. After use in the rain the umhrella is simply wiped over with a clean, dry cloth. A little vaseline rubbed on the metal parts will prevent them from rusting and make them work easily.
