LAUNCH WRECKED.
DASHED TO PIECES.
MEN'S NARROW ESCAPE.
LONG SWIM FOR HELP.

A tragedy nearly occurred on the Raglan Bar last evening, when a light launch owned by Mr. Leslie Galvan (38), married, with six children, was (lashed to pieces by .heavy seas, while Mr. <>alvan and Mr. William Appleby, a middle-aged man, barely escaped with their lives.
The pair eet off for a day's fishing yesterday, and were returning when the launch was caught in an abnormally high tide.
Engine trouble developed, and a huge wave completely wrecked the craft. Mr. Appleby saved his life by clinging to the cabin top, while Mr. Galvan swam two miles to the ehore for help. Mr. (ialvan and Mr. R. Edwards went in a speedboat and rescued Mr. Appleby, who was drifting on the piece of timber after an hour in the water. He was exhausted.
