Pine but mainly overcast conditions ruled for-.-the annual rowing regatta-on the Waikato River- to-day, postponed from Anniversary Day, Hundreds of visitors arrived, by special train and buses, and indications point to a successful function financially. With an excellent entry of 71 crews, including the leading oarsmen of the province, competition was the keenest seen for may seasons. Thirteen clubs were represented, "about 270 oarsmen participating. Speedboat racing, aquaplaning and Maori and national dancing 'provided additional attractions. The highlight was the two-mile swimming race downstream for the Goldie Anderson.' Cup, over 20 competitors entering. Much interest was taken in the appearance of the Xew Zealand champions, Clifton, who contested, the senior fours event in one of the largest and keenest fields.seen in the Dominion. .
