DAVIES. | i '.Members of tlie- family liavc - arrived froiii 'Wesfcflort, Mast£rton, and' Hastings to join those at Auckland in celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Davies, of Staiford Road, Northcote. Both Mr. and Mrs;. DaVies v were born in Wales, Aberdare, Glamorganshire, being- the birthplace -of Mrs; Da vies. Mrs. Davies is tlie eldest daughter of the late Mr. George Wilcox and Mrs. Mary Wilcox, and Mr. David Rees Davics is the eldest son ,of the late Mr. Rees Davies and Mrs. Elizabeth Davies, of 3STe\v TredegaV. They were married at the Bedwellty parish cliurcli, Xew Tredegar, Wales, on February 5, 18Sfl, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Samuel John.
Mr. and Mi's. Davies came to New Zealand, with their five children,by the steamer Athenic, landing at Wellington in November, 1906.
Mr. Davies j who is associated in business with the. Auckland stevedoring firm of Messrs. Leonard and Dingley, and who is also a director of the Waitemata Bus and . Transport Company, has been identified- with musical activities for the past iifty years. He is choirmaster and vice-president -of the Auckland Welsh Society. He has beeii choirmaster for both the Birkenhead and Nortlicote Methodist Churches, and was a foundation member, of the Auckland Municipal Choir, under tho conductor-' ship of thc lato Mr. Maugliaii Barnett. For two years ho was secretary and treasurer of the Birkenhead-Northcote 'Orphans' Club.
In outdoor games, bowling claims first j*laco with Mr. Davies, who is a life member of the- Waitemata Bowling and Croquet Club, which he served four years as secretary and treasurer and two years as president. He donated tho gold stars which the holders, have to defend when challenged in a fours competition. Mr. Davies also takes an active interest in public affairs, and for nine years was a member of the Northcote Borough Council, and in 1019 and 1920 was the deputy-Mayor.
The family comprises foui 4 sons and two daughters. These are: Messrs. Archibald Davies (Westport)* Walter Davies (Masterton), Rees Davies (Northcote), and Glyndwar Davies (Devonpor-t); and Mesdames F. H. Lees and Gordon D. Stewart, both .of Northcote. There are,ten-grandchildren.
