SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.
APPEAL BY MR. COLIN MUSTON
Now Chat the amusement tax has been lifted, in so far as it affected the Bohemian Orchestra, a proposal has been made by Mr. Colin Muston, that Auckland should again be provided with a symphony orehestra. Mr. Muston was associated with the Bohemian Orchestra from its inception in 1914.
When the Bohemian Orchestra went into recess in 1996 because it was found the amusement tax was too heavy to permit the orchestra to continue, it had a reserve fund which it would ihave been necessary t-o draw upon to pay. the tax, and after giving the matter consideration a decision was come to that the orchestra should fro into recess.
Mr. Muston feels that Auckland should again be provided with an orchestra and should his appeal meet with the support he anticipates from the musical people of Auckland he would proceed to reorganise the orchestra, whic'h he proposes to call the Auckland Symphony Orchestra. He considers there is ample talent available.
