SEA AND AIR.
DEFENCE CO-OPERATION.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Friday. A suggestion by Rear-Admiral W. H. Mackenzie that New Zealand's navy was her first line-of defence, but that for real efficiency the Dominion must have an air force trained to co-operate with the navy was commented on by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, in an interview to-day. "The utmost co-operation already exists between the Air Force and the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy," said the Minister. "When naval exercises are being carried out around the coast of New Zealand arrangements are made for aircraft to participate in combined exercises with our cruisers. This applies also to the air arm of the cruisers. Maintenance of the ships' aircraft is undertaken at the repair base at Hobsonville and everything possible is done to ensure the closest co-operation in methods and the training of the personnel of flying machines.
