A BALKAN QUEEN.
LIKES ROAST BEEF. PALATE FOR ENGLISH FOOD. BOT KINO'S PREFERENCE. (Special—By Air Mail.) LONDON, January 1. Foreigners sometimes poke fun at English food and . English cooking. Queen Marie of Yugoslavia likes nothing better than good, plain English fare, particularly roast beef and apple pie. So from the royal palace in Belgrade she has sent her maitre chef to London to see for himself the roast beef of Old England spluttering on the spit and to get tips about preparing it. Josef Gretlinger has served three kings and ruled the royal kitchens for 16 years. In the kitchens of a West End hotel this week he gazed, in admiration at a superb baron of beef all hot, crying, "Magnifique" as his fork sank in prong deep of its own weight. Asked about Yorkshire pudding he beamed: "We always have it," and he beamed "Le Yorksheer poodin." Favourite of 15-year-old King Peter is a dish of titbits of sausage, bacon, meat and vegetables speared by a long skewer.
