SEEN BY DETECTIVE.
YOUTHS BREAK INTO HOUSE. BORSTAL ESCAPEES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) < WELLINGTON*, Wednesday. Two youths who escaped from the Borstal institution .at Invercargill. were charged in the Wellington Police Court to-day with breaking and entering They were Geoffrey Corbett, alias Stanley Leslie King, engineer and ' farm hand, aged 10, and Geoffrey Francis Evans Turner, alias John Edward Gilember, farm hand, aged 18. Both pleaded guilty. The accused were charged jointly with breaking and entering the dwelling of Frank Johnson, of Brooklyn, and stealing articles valued at 16/6, and with breaking and entering the counting house of Frank Johnson and stealing tools, valued at 3/6.
Acting-Detective T. Chalmers said he resided in Brooklyn, opposite the dwelling of Frank Johnson. About 11.55 a.m. on January 8 he saw the two accused enter the gate of the house. Witness was aware that Johnson was away on holiday and went to investigate. A side window had been forced open and witness saw Corbett in the house. He entered and found both accused in a bedroom, which showed signs of having been hastily ransacked. Witness said Turner was wearing a felt hat stolen in the house. Accused admitted breaking into Johnson's workshop, where Turner worked some time ago. The accused were committed to the Supreme Court at Christchurch for sentence.
