SURPLUS TEACHERS.
TRANSFER FROM SOUTH. DEPARTMENT'S SUGGESTION. Transfer, of surplus probationary teachers from the South Island, for service in education districts of the North Island, was suggested in a communication from the Education Department, which was received at a'meetin? of the Auckland Education Board this morning. The Department stated that the Canterbury, Xekon and Otago boards eould supply the Auckland board's requirements. It was decided that the Minister of Education be informed of the surplus relieving teacher* in the Auckland dis-. trict. The board recommended that if the proposal to transfer the surplus from the South Island to the Auckland district was adhered to, the travelling expenses should be provided, if it were really a case of compulsory transfer.
