HIGHWAY BRIDGE.
REVERSION TO RAILWAY. NGARUAWAHIA PROBLEM. The reoccupation by the Railways Dcr.art.ncnt of the bridge at Xjraruawahia, which is leased to the Main Highway* Bo«rd and serves the main south road, is regarded as practicallv certain on the duplication of the Main Trunk line between Frankton Junction and Auckland. Erected a« a railway bridge, it was taken over by the Highways Board when the Department found it necessary, because of « change in the alignment of the lines, to construct • new bridge. The traffic highway is served by the former railway bridge and an adjoining bridge, each of which are one-way connections. The full volume. *of road traffic cotiM not be carried by the adjoining bridge when the old railway bridge U taken over again bv the Railway* Department. The Public Work* Department U now carrying put surveys which, it U believed, are baaed on alternative schemes for the widening of the traffic bridge, or the construction of another bridge capable of meeting all the requirement* of traffic.
