DISTRICT NURSES.
VARIANCE IN CONDITIONS. Reporting to. the Auckland Hospital Board last evening that district nurses at Great Barrier Island, Waiheke Inland and Silverdale had been appointed by the board with a considerable variance in salaries and conditions, the Acting-Director-General of Health, Dr. Shore, wrote that "this is most unsatisfactory. These appointments should be full time and on a comparable basis." After outlining the conditions provided for Departmental district nurses, Dr. Shore offered on behalf of the Department to recommend grants of £60 for Great Barrier Island, £30 for Waiheke Inland and £20 for Silverdale, providing the nurses in question took over certain Departmental work to save overlapping in their districts. "In view of the amount of work don® by the nurse at Great Barrier' Island it would appear necessary that she should be paid a full-time salary," it «u stated. 'Jj! The letter was referred to tha finance' committee for consideration.
