MEDICAL WORK.
IN PUBLIC HOSPITALS. NEW INSPECTOR'S DUTIES. (Bj Telegraph.—Prews A annotation.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Friwier, stated to-day that the announcement of the appointment of Dr. L. C. McNickle a# inspector of hospitals under the Social Security Act, which was telegraphed from 111 vercargill, was incorrect. The ap|x>iiitinent is that of inspector of hospitals under the .Hospital Division of the Health Department, and his duties will not commence for about six months. Dr. McN'icklcVt duties will Ik> to inspect medical work in public hospitals with a view to maintaining a high standard. Similar work on the surgical side is already lieing done by a number of members of the College of Surgeons, who had undertaken to carry out inspections from time to time. The Minister said it was pleading to secure a man of Dr. McNickle's ability. He was hii enthusiastic worker and would "inke sacrifices to improve conditions for others.
