CHRISTCHURCH. this day, Crlmlnitl cases dealt, with by the Magistrate's Court. in Christehiirch during the twelve months ended December Ml Inst numbered 0870. which Included ftl.t cases tried in tho Children's Court. These figures, which ar« included in the llrst annual compilation of business done by the Court, have just been issued. The record also shows that the number of sittings presided over by a stipendiary magistrate was 051. compriscd of ">23 criminal and 12ft civil. One criminal sitting was presided over by a Justice <ef the Peace. Fee.* and fines amounting to £13,fi"7 Were collected. They were imide up as follows. Civil fees. ; criminal fees, £20(>l; fines, £.">771; licensing fees £l>v>. Quarterly figures covering the period ended December .11 last, show that 1781 criminal cases Avcro dealt with, compared with 1H45 for tho corresponding quarter in 11)37. This represents a decrease of 1(14 eases. Civil cases, however, showed a big increase, there beinjf ]Bfl more, though the total amount sued for, £22,1 HIM, was up only £1222.
