THE KENYA MAY SHOW THEM HOW THE luck of deep-tea anglers has been out this season, but perhaps better fortune will attend the long cruise planned by an Aucldander, Mr. Len Heard. If there are any big fish about he should find them, for he proposes to cruise to Mayor Island, via the Hen and Chickens, Mercury Island and Slipper Island. He will leave his launch the Kenya at Tauranga and a week later, about February 11, start off on a long trip to Whangaroa, trying all the well-known waters en route. Last year many swordfish and a few makos came over the tuck of Kenya, but the most prised catch was a 5001b black marlin. It was the first of the Tauranga season, but it was a close call with another Auckland party, who landed a bigger fish on the same day. The second fish was secured only after several hours' struggle, but the Kenya's came aboard in nineteen minutes— believe it or not.
