At last evening's meeting of the executive of the Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association a letter was received from Mr. L. J. lira bin, requesting that a match .should be arranged with the Wellington Brabiu Cup team on December 2S and 20. The invitation was accepted, and the game will he played at the' Domain on the dates mentioned. The Suburbs second grade team alleged that Ponsonby had played two senior members against it in a recent fixture. After discussion the committee held that the case had been proved and .awarded the full points for the game to Suburbs. The following players, who have scored centuries recently, were awarded batting gloves.—E. Furlonger (Dilworth), C. Tate (Wedderburn), L. Daughty (Avondale), A. Player (Native Department). . COUNTRY CHALLENGES. _ SOUTH AUCKLAND CONTESTS. When the first challenge match for the South Auckland Cricket Shield was played at Bedford Park. Matamata, bet\Ve-en Waipa and Piako, the latter retained the trophy. Waipa batted first and compiled 137 (W., Wilson 20, D. Morgan 40, G. Laurie 21, E. Evans 24). Piako lost its first two wickets for three runs, but a good stand by R. Beaver (34) and A. Fletcher (30) saved tliei position. .Bowling for Piako, Fletcher took two wickets for 2G runs and Homan three for 25. For Waipa F. Tarr took three for 3S and 11. Gooilacre two for 42. A challenge match for the Vercoe Cup, between teams representing Ranglriri and Waikare, resulted in a win for the latter. Scores: —Waikare : First innings, 3G. Bowling :• Gunn nine for 14.
