IIAS'ITXOS, Friday, The Continent and Bradford, and to a certain ox tent Aim*ri<*a, wore active at the first Ifawke's Bay wool sale of the season at Napier to-dav. \ teat lire of the sale was the-return of Belgium to the wool market, her spirited bidding acquiring fairly extensive lots. Japan was not in evidence, in sharp contrast to her prominence in sales held in recent years. Ihe selection of wool offering was excellent. and it was genera II v considered to be the best dip seen in Haw ke s Bay for vears. I here was a firm demand for the coarser grades of wool. America seemed to be more interested in the smaller lots. I'rices show an increase of approximately a penny per lb o\ cr last vcar and a clear rise mi the Auckland sale. I he sale i.s reported to be fully up to expectations. brokers' bidding bcintr steady and spirited. The top price realised was J4.WI for a »ood line entered by the estate of the late Mr. ■ lames I mid. It was super-medium crossbred, of 4(i to 4S count. It is estimated that as a result of to-day's auction well over £.'{.">o.l lIMI will be distributed among Hawke's Bav farmers. Official Range of Prices.
