MENTAL HOSPITAL.
SUCCESSFUL FAIR.
FUNDS AUGMENTED.
The main hall of the Auckland Mental Hospital presented a gay scene with its well-laden and carefully set-out stalls yesterday afternoon, when the staff and patients held their annual sale of work to augment the hospital funds. Many of the j>eople who attended this function, after making their purchases, took advantage of the seats which had been set about the beautiful grounds, and enjoyed the sunshine.
The Mayoress, Lady Davis, who was introduced by the acting-superintendent, Dr. J. C. D. Mackv. opened the fair. Miss M. Mayze and her helpers received congratulations upon their fine work from Lady Davie, who also pointed out the necessity of keeping the patients happy and occupied. She also paid a tribute to the ladies of the Mental Hospital Auxiliary, who assisted in organising the fair, and thanked the many city firms which had so generously donated towards the function.
The stalls, which were attractively decorated, were stocked with goods made chiefly by the patients, and members of the staff. An exhibition of Highland dancing was given during the afternoon. The stallholders were as follows: — Flowers. Mrs. Ash by. Miss L. Ellis and Nurse E. Marks; "cakes, Mrs. C. V. Molony, Mrs. L. F. Webster and Miss Barbara Tiarks; sweets. Mrs. W. H. 'Teape. Mrs. Warren Tea|>e and Mrs. T. H. Jones; art work, Mrs. J. Morris, Miss A. D. Smith and Miss K. Speisbt; toys. Mrs. G. Boyd: smaV cakes. Mrs. S. E. Edge, Miss King and Miss M. Massev; soft drinks. Nurse M. E. Littlo, Nurse M. E. Noble and helpers.
