PIONEER WOMEN.
SUGGESTED MEMORIAL. A proposal that the women of the province should sponsor the erection of a memorial to the women pioneers of early Canterbury to be placed at the junction of the Summit Road and the Bridle Path as part of the Centenary celebrations, was advanced at a meeting of the women's branch of the Christchurch Citizen's Association held at the Y.M.C.A. Hall. It was the first general meeting of the branch since 1933, the branch having lately been re-formed. Mrs. E. H. S. Hamilton was in the chair
Speakers supported the idea of the memorial, and urged that the interest of Canterbury women should be sousrht that the memorial might be a representative tribute.
Miss M. E. Trent, who introduced the subject, said that while suggestions would be welcome, it was felt that a memorial in such a spot would be a fitting commemoration of the women who. in those early davs, had viewed their Promised land alter trudirinjr fo the top of the hill.
