ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME.

/VICTORIA LEAGUE FUNCTION.

A large crowd gathered in the Catholic Women's League rooms last evening when the Victoria League held an enjoyable At Home. Gerberas and rambler roses decorated the rooms for the occasion, making an effective colour scheme in rose shades.

The guests were received by Mrs. L. S. Rickerby, the chairman of tlie Victoria League, assisted by Mrs. C. R. Keeble.

An account of the recent Victoria League conference in Wellington was given by Mrs. Rickerby. She stated that it had been decided to encourage the heads of firms to join the league so that their employees would be eligible to be entertained by members in London. It had also been decided, said Mrs. Rickerby, to form lairge hospitality committees in the various towns; for the purpi.se of entertaining. overseas visitors. Members who had received hospitality abroad would be asked to join these committees.

It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to the president of the league, Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, who was unable to attend the At Home through illness. The programme at the At Home included the presentation of prizes to the winners of the recent competition for home-made children's toys. These toys are to be : ent as Christmas gifts to the children in the baekblacks. The winners of the competition were as follows:—Woolly doll (girl). Miss G. McConnell; (boy). Miss Reka Patterson; best dressed doll, Miss J. Price; kewpie. Miss W. Lippetts; knitted animal, Miss Hare; scrap book. Miss M. Free.

During the evening an excellent programme of entertainment was presented. The programme was arranged by Mrs. •Toek Allen, Mrs. T. Buisson and the Ever- Ready committees. It included a one-act play performed by Mrs. Harold Ward, Miss Mary Pilkington, Miss Marjorie Kyle and Miss Gwennie Walkin; a sketch presented by Mrs. Jock Allen and Mr. John Gordon; vocal solos by Mrs. B. England. Miss Winifred Hill, Mr. J. Ernest Snell; pianoforte duets by Mrs. Reginald Reed and Miss Loma Reed; violin solos by Dr. Selwyn de Clive Lowe; and humour by Mr. Allan McElwam.
