AMUSEMENTS.

ROXY-TIVOLI. Intelligently presented at a fast pace throughout, "Smashing the Rackets," coming to the Roxy and Tivoli Theatres tomorrow, is a film that should appeal to all fihngoere who like real substance in their entertainment. The cleaning up of rackets and racketeers in a big town ie not a new theme, but fhe way in which it is presented in this production is more convincing and realistic than in most previous pictures. There is little tendency to make the film a dry exposure of racketeering, but to preclude any likelihood of this romance hae been interwoven into the main theme of the (story, and is an integral part of the whole. Chester Morris has the leading role and does a tine job of work as a former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent appointed special prosecutor to a district attorney (Bruce Cabot), who is more of a politician than a people's representative. The story tells how the prosecutor, after a series of exciting incidents, eventually rids his town of the gangster influence, with the aid of tlie sister of hie sweetheart. Fiances Mercer is the girl he loves, while Rita Johnson is her 6ister. Ben Weldon, Edward Pawley and Donald -Douglas are also in the cast. "Love is on the Air," a radio melodrama, with Ronald Reagan and June Travis, is also showing.
