MOTOR CYCLE NOTES.

FIXTURE FOR SUNDAY

GREAT RACING ANTICIPATED.

Preparations are well in hand for the next fixture of the Auckland Motor Cycle Club, a day of highspeed racing at Mr. George Heiining's track at Mangere on Sunday next. December 4. With the dwindling away of support for small track speedway racing, the big tracks, such as Henniiig's. arc coming back into their own, with the increased possibility of higher speeds and larger fields, and the lesser likelihood of accidents.

All over New Zealand grass track racing; is getting more and more support, and it seems that it will be only a short time before Henning's speedway is attracting the crowds' of two and three thousands, as it used to a decade ago.

It was in 102S, 10 years back, that the. famous Percy Colcniau established a lap record of 04s for the lap of li

miles on his twin Harley, and, although Buddy Vinall came within Is of breaking it. and many other speedsters have lapped in 56s or B7e (equal to 80 miles an hour), that record still stands. However, records are made to be broken, and some of the grass track specialists of the Auckland club are confident that the figures will be lowered this season. All riders remember Tikapuna. and they should be encouraged to come along when they are told that the Heiining's track is of much the same tvpe. except that the running surface of hard clay is faster than the average. Mr. Henning has spent many months of painstaking work on the track, and the results of his good work were seen lust week-end when riders were lapping at 75 miles an hour in practice, and still keeping plenty ot speed in reserve. \mon" the riders who will be starting on Sunday will be Charlie Buchanan, holder of the New Zealand middle and heavy-weight championship on grass track, and winner of many trophies for every kind of motor cycle competition, including Western Springs speedway. Rosebank Park and Munwai. Henry Falls, runner-up in the two

above-mentioned championships, will be another starter. This rider has a long list of successes on grass tracks, and, after two and a half years of tuning and retuning up his Douglas, has finally succeeded in getting every ounc* of power from her. Both Falls and Buchanan will attack the lap record.

Other well-known riders who will be competing, in Harold Mathews, Johnnie Phillips, Paul Clarkson, Len Parry and Jack Dale, will be well in the running, to make the afternoon of racing a memorable one.

The first race will start at 11 a.m., and competitors muet be on hand at 10 u'elcok. Loud-speakers will be in use all day to give starting numbers and results'. ■ t
