DEATH OF BUSH WORKER. COMPENSATION FOR CHILDREN. Arising out of the death of John Henry Daniel, hush worker, of Mata, a« the result of an accident on April 7, 1937, a compensation judgment was issued by the Arbitration Court to-day. Frederick William Humphreys, farmer, of Onetea, as the guardian ad litem of Daniel's six children, on October 10 sought compensation from Herbert Wilson Collin**, bush contractor, of Mata. Plaintiffs, claiming whole or partial dependence on their father, asked the sum of £1000, with £22 7/ medical and funeral expenses. The Court, with Mr. Justice O'Regan presiding, stated in its judgment that it could not hold that the children were total dependents. It decided that the probable average weekly payment made by the father in support of the children would be £2 2/fi, amounting to £110 10/ a year. Tn partial dependency cases four years' benefits were usually allowed, iind hence the Court fixed the rmount to which the dependents were entitled at, £442, with medical and funeral expenses £22 7/ and costs £l."» 10/10, as well as witne««es' expenses and disbursements to be fixed by the clerk of awards. In the hearing Mr. T. C. Webb Appeared for the plaintiffs and Mr. R. K. Trimmer for the defendant.
