GANGSTERS SAT.
FOR POLICE EXAMINATION. AND GAINED HIGHEST MARKS! (By Air Mail.) LONDON, October 24. It is disclosed to-night that gangsters from Marseilles recently sat at an examination held in Toulon to recruit 40 men as police inspectors. They all passed. They handed in by far the best papers. These gangsters would now be police officers if a rival gang had not heard of the plan. They revealed the facts to a •high authority, who had the examination results cancelled. Detectives from Paris who have been cleaning up the Marseilles police began work at Toulon to-day. They were sent j after local police officials who made i excuses for not raiding a gambling clubi visited by sailors. The club has now been closed. At Marseilles a racket lias been discovered in which men visiting apartments were robbed by girls who made use of secret doors.
