PACKED HOUSES.
NICOLA AT HIS MAJESTY'S. I It was anticipated from the commencement of tlie present season that the "high priest of magic," Nicola, would draw good houses to His Majesty's Theatre, but it was hardly expected that the theatre would be packed to the doors for almost every performance. ieola was popular on his previous visits to this city, but he is doubly so this year. Many of those who saw him before are going again and commenting on the improved class of the current show. The magician has spared no money in making his tricks effective. Over 100 tons of stage props and scenery are used to create the necessary, backgrounds, which are mdre lavish than any seen here before for similar entertainments. A dozen American artiste aid Nicola in baffling the audiences and among these are some -who are capable performers in their own rights. The illusionist is presenting the best of his old tricks, notably the "elastic lady" and the "iron maiden," but his best ones are some novelties which he did not display on his previous visits.
