FINED FOR ASSAULT.
Y ARGUMENT ON ROAD.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, this day. "Accused is passing through the hoodlum stage and has had considerable trouble with both the police and the traffic department and he is now embarking on the different course of assaulting people," said Senior-Sergeant McNamara when Richard Henry Jeffeoate appeared before Mr. E. It. Walton, S.M.. this morning charged with assaulting Edwin Stephen Shepherd. Accused, who was not represented by counsel, pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant McNamara said accused met Shepherd on the Wainui Road on November 11. There had been some trouble between the pair concerning a sum of money, and Jeffcoate struck Shepherd, knocking him down. Shepherd's head struck the concrete and he was knocked unconscious and had been unable to work since the assault. A fine of £•» was imposed.
