RUGBY REBUFF.

JUNIOR MANAGEMENT.

UNION TAKEN TO TASK.

IWAL PLAYED AJFTEH. TEAMS

BRACKETED.

When the Technical College and Grammar School Old Boys' Rugby Clubs met last Saturday in the fourth final in the third grade championship there was again "no decision," the game resulting in a noscore draw.

The atmosphere was torrid when the A.R.F.U. Junior Management Board met last night, for the simple reason that at its last meeting (on Tuesday week) that body had decided to bracket those teams as joint winners of the third grade championship. Apparently this was not acceptable to the union at its meeting on Wednesday. So, after a protracted mid-day discussion on Thursday, it was decided bv the governing body to call Wpon Technical and Grammar to play again, as a curtainraiser to the Barbarians v. Auckland match at Eden Park.

The junior management officials at their latest meeting were emphatic that the A.R.F.U. executive had no justification for coming to its replay decision and passed this resolution:—"That the board strongly protests against the action of the management committee in ordering the playing of a further game in the third grade championship last Saturday, which action the board can take only as being a vote of no-confidence in the jvnior management board."

A deputation from the Technical Old Boys' Club waited upon the board expressing the opinion that it did not desire to play any further matches in the third grade this season.

Permission was granted for the following matches against sides from provincial centre* to be played this week:—

Manukau intermediates, at Rotorua. Manukau intermediate boys, at Hamflton.

Manukau v. Huntly, at Showgrounds. Manukau v. Rotorua, at Showgrounds. Technical Old Boy» intermediate v. Tauranga.

Mr. Arthur Tilly, .chairman, thanked the members for the assistance they had given during the season.

Members took the opportunity of thanking the chairman for his very Valuable assistance in administration and wished him success in the future. Mr. Tilly is to retire after 21 years' chairmanship of the board.

Prodigious Feats. - It was decided to congratulate the Manukau intermediate team upon winning the championship, and also the Grammar Old Boys' Club upon annexing the second grade championehip. The latter team played 16 matches and won them all. The captain, Noel Blanchfield, scored over 100 points during the season. A letter is to be sent to Cyril Williams, of the Manukau intermediate team, congratulating him on having scored 540 points in the past four years, this being regarded as probably « record for any young player.*
