LADIES AT MIDDLEMORE.
CHAJIPIOKSHIP ROPHDS-MBg FERGUSON DEFEATED.
The first day's match play of the Auckland Ladies' Golf Club's senior and junior championships yesterday was not withdut surprise. As Mrs. Ralph, the title-holder, had shown in the qualifying play that she was the outstanding competitor in the field her two victories were anticipated. In the second round she bad a runaway success to finish the match at the tenth. Mrs. Ralph won every hole except the sixth, which was halved.
In the qualifying play Mrs. G. F. Ferguson was nearest to ill*. Ralph, and her early defeat in the contest was unexpected, though on the day she did not produce her real form. Mrs. R. G. Rainger looked like bringing about her defeat in the morning, as she was 3 up at the eleventh. Two rather unlucky mishaps turned the scale. At the thirteenth, when both were oil the green with the tee shots, Mrs. Rainier was stymied, and lost the hole, when a half at least seemed assured. At the fifteenth she accidentally kicked her ball and surrendered the hole. After- that she was outplayed. In the afternoon Mrs. Ferguson's game did not improve, and Mi®. J. M. Wilson brought about her defeat after always having an advantage. Excellent work on the greens in the second half enabled Mis. Wilson to settle the issue.
In the junior championship Miss B. Nolan, a C (jratle player last season, di.l exceedingly well to defeat Mrs. (_'. H. Knight, who won the title two years ago. and was runner-up last year. In the afternoon Miss Xolan took Mrs. Robinson, another experienced player, to the eighteenth she was defeated.
Mrs. B. Jacolie brought about the defeat, in no uncertain manner, of Mrs. D. L. Johnston, who has been playing well throughout the season. Junior. —Miss Savage beat Mre. Gutfield. 2 and 1: Mrs. Jacobs beat Mrs. Johnson, 7 and 6: Mre. Mathieeon beat Mns. Finn, at the nineteenth; Mrs. Robinson beat Miss Nolan, 1 up. i AKARANA CLUB. i A medal round played with all iron clubs was contested yesterday by members of the Aknrana r.ndies' Golf Club. Following were the best scores returned : — Seniors.—Mrs. G. M. Tilston, 02—-15—• 77; Mrs. H. G. I.ovell, "05—IS —77 : Miss O. M. Parrach. 07—17—80; Mrs. Tilston won on a recount. Juniors. Mrs. A. Stewart, with a score of 107. RSMUERA CLUB. Following were the best scores returned in an L.G.U. medal competition played yesterday by members of the Remuern readies - Golf Club:—Mrs. R. G. Moffitt, 100 —33—67: Mrs. D. McCrone, 90—17—73 ; Mrs. L. Williams, 102—28—74; Mrs. G. Davenport, #0—24—75 ; Miss M. Cousins, 105—27—7*.
A Stableford bogey competition was won by Miss A. Bailey, with a card of 10, 20— 30. TITIRANGI CLUB.
