IN GOOD FORM.

NR. HBRRITT IN PARNELX*

Although he had to contend with a running fire of interjections at his meeting in the Parnell Library Hall last night, Mr. Harry Merritt, the National candidate for Auckland East, was in good form, and won enthusiastic support from the larger section of his audience. The hall was crowded well before the meeting commenced, and those who were unable to enter listened to the address broadcast through loud-speakers. Mr. John Terry was in the chair. Mr. Merritt criticised at length the Government's social security scheme, which he labelled "the most glittering bubble of tinsel and dizzlc-dazzle ever let loose before a general election." "If it is so good for the people, why hae the Government waited for three years before bringing it in?" he said. "They rushed it through in record time at the end of the session, the vital proposals of the bill being put through at a single sitting." A resolution complimenting Mr. Merritt on his entry to the political arena and on his address, and adding that he was considered worthy as the representative of the electorate, was carried by a large majority. An amendment by one of the candidate's most persistent interjectors, that a vote of thanks be accorded, wa* declared lost. Three cheers were called for "Mickey Savage" and were heartily given, but equally as lusty were three cheers for Mr. Merritt. The larger section of the audience sang, "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow."
