The chief subject to be considered will be that of royalties, and performing rights for plays, opera* and other theatrical productions. The secretary of the Napier Society, in outlining its intentions, said that at the present time societies were obliged to make their own arrangements for permission to produce, and also in regard to rova'ties payable on productions. Moreover it was sometimes difficult to ascertain who held the performing rights, and whether certain professional companies w*re always entitled to the royalties which amateur societies were required to puv Another advantage from the formation of a national organisation, he explained, would be the interchange of wardrobes scenery and property, and an exchange of idea* on the work of production.
