MOTORISTS AT PLAY.
FIRST GYMKHANA.
HUNDRED DRIVERS PARTICIPATE.
The first of a series of gymkhanas organised by the New Zealand Motor Racing Drivers' Association was held on Sunday, when approximately 100 cars assembled at th» Point England Reserve.
The first event was a "bottle ring." in which competitors, were required to drive their cars into a «pace bounded by bottles, turn their vehicles and drive out again. The ring was" varied in size according to the type of car in use. The winner was Mr. N. Sloan, in a small car, who took 25 2-ss, to complete the manoeuvre. Mr. W. Marshall, driving a coupe, was second >and his time was 265.
A large number of drivers participated in two events known as "musical cushioas," the winner of both being Mr. X. Matthews. The cars were driven in a large circle' and when "an official in the centre dropped' a flag drivers were required to step their cars, run to the centre and secure a cushion. The chairman of the association, Mr. A. Dexter, distributed prizes to the winners.
