WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
Auckland.—Mrs. Xeal presided over the September meeting. The speaker for the afternoon was Miss Kay Goodson, who gave a talk on "How to retain youth and beauty."' Songs were presented by Miss Hanigan and Madame Winifred Osborne. A demonstration or pewter work was arranged bv the arts and crafts circle, at which Mr. Culpan demonstrated. Mrs. Rothery demonstrated floral work to the gardening circle. Arrangements were made for a visit from Mrs. Kelso, Dominion organising secretary, in October.
Tuai. —Mrs. Dunstan presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Tuai Women's Institute. During the evening Mrs. Bunstead gave a demonstration of poker work. The various competitions resulted as follows. For the most useful apron Mrs. Xicol was first. Mrs. Rosenberg was first for the bowl of spring flowers, and Mesdames Stoupe and Nicol second. Mrs. Eban was first for "Elsie's fingers," and Mrs. McDonald second.
Waitoa. —The September meeting of the Waitoa Women's Institute was held in the hall, Mrs. Suckling presiding. Mrs. Warren demonstrated how to ice a cake. The monthly -competition -was won by Mrs. Hyde. Afternoon tea was served, by the hostesses, Mesdames Craig, Graham and Malcolm.
