PLUNKET WORKERS.
NORTH SHORE BRANCH. GATHERING AT NORTHCOTE. A "get-together" gathering of North Shore Plunket workers this week was very successful, when the members of the various committees in that area were the guests of the Northcote committee of the society at morning tea in the Methodist Hall. The president of the Northcote branch, Mrs. Archie Campbell, extended a cordial welcome, ex- • pressing gratification at the representative assemblage. The president of the Auckland centre, Mrs. J. C. Allan, was accorded an ovation, being received with cheering and musical honours. During the proceedings Mrs. Allan reviewed the work of Auckland headquarters and of the suburban committees iu relation to finance and nursing. These remarks were supplemented by the president, Mr*. G. H. Matthews, on behalf of the Takapuna. Belmont and Bayswater districts; by Mrs. ClarkWalker. vice-president, for Devonport; by Mrs. C. Eric Chambers, president, for Birkenhead; and by Mrs. J. C'. Rennie, president, for the Ea*t Coast bays. An enjoyable programme comprised songs by Mesdanies S. T. Carter, T. McKnight and E. Barrington Snoiv; pianoforte solos by Mrs. H. St ebbing; violin solos by Mrs. Freda Wallis; and' | elocutionary items 'by Mrs. A. E. TreI main. The accompaniments were played •by Mrs. T. Joll. Presentations were made to the artists of nosegays and apravs. arranged by Mesdame-s J. L. Haima and H. C'adness. Lucky cups were presented by Mrs. J. C. Allan to the winners, Mesdames J. Brindle (Xorthcote) and J. McGregor (Takapuna). A bouquet of flowers and a message conveying good wishes were sent from the gathering to Mrs. H. Corbett, president of the Devonport committee, who was precluded from attending owing to family sickness. W.C.T.U. j i Otahuhu.—The monthly meeting of the Otahuhu Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in the Methodist Sunday School, Mrs. Eecersall presiding. Mrs. Vcrcoe took charge of the devo- | tional part of the meeting when all business was finished. Reports of the recent Auckland district convention were given'bv Mrs. Asheroft, Mrs. Vercoe and Mrs. W. Taylor. Onehunga.—A good attendance of members at the monthly meeting held recently thoroughly enjoyed a particularly interesting address by Miss Anita Webster on her travels in Central Europe. The union has arranged an "At Home" meeting to be held at the Church of Christ, Trafalgar Street, Onehunga, on Wednesday, September 28. COMRADES' CLUB. * Another enjoyable evening was spent by the usual large gathering at the Comrades' Club rooms, when dancing and cards Were indulged in. Mrs. Grier and Mr. Corbridge rendered items. Prizes were won bv Mrs. Reynolds, Mrs. Eagleton, Miss L. Taylor, Miss E. Timewell and Mr. Kelly. The Monte Qarlo was won by Mrs. Taylor and Mr. Ralph. Music was supplied by Mrs. Sutherland, an extra being given by Mrs. Jeffries. Mr. Rigney was master of ceremonies.
