FLOWER CARPETS.
A million and a quarter flowers will bo used to make a flower carpet at a kindergarten fete to be held at the Sydney Town Hall early in October. Districts to be represented will include the Blue Mountains and the Southern Highlands, and orchids will be brought by aeroplane from the East. An elaborate system of collection has been organised, in which trains, cars and ferries will feature. When the blooms have been assembled, the tremendous task of snipping the heads from the stalks will begin, and the workers will be employed all one night setting the flowers in position.
