WfDOWER'S DEATH.
KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR
Death was duo to hemorrhage of the brain and bronchial pneumonia following upon his being knocked down bv a car driven by Alexander Roger Bean.* according to the verdict returned bv the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, at an inquest into the death of Harold John Hewlett. Mr. Hewlett was a widower, aired .">O. He was on Mistcnance, and ifvcd in Orakei Road. Senior Sergeant Flanagan appeared for the polire. Mr. T. X. HoTm<Jen for the driver of the ear. and Mr. H. George for the relatives of Mr. Hewlett.
Alexander Roger Bean, aged 10. a student at the Auckland Grammar School, said he was driving a car alon" la ma k i Drive towards the eitv about 8.30 p.m. on August 25. He was travelling at a fpeed of 28 or 30 miles an hour, and on his correct side of the road. Witness did not see Mr. Hewlett and was not aware of his presence on the road till the right mudguard of the car struck him. The injured man was removed to the Auckland Hospital. Xo other vehicles were in the vicinity at the time of the accident, and there were no witnesses.
Dr. .T. R. who examined the injured man at the Auckland Hospital, described the injuries, from which Mr. Hewlett died on September 5.
