BANTAM—The race was the Reco-erv Stakes, live furlongs, run at Ellerslie oil January 2. 1895. A pojiy hurdle rate had been decided just previously, and when the field in the Recovery Stakes reached the top stretch the riders fou-ul that a hurdle had not been removed. Linstock, who was leading, came to a sudden stop, while Lord Dunluce fell, some of the others jumping the obstacle. Doris, ridden by Connop, won, and Reynard, ridden by F. Davis, was second.. A wild scane followed, and the , stewards decided the race should i>e re-run, with the result that Eve -.v-.s first, Doris second and Ladv Marin-i third. The race was for three-vear-ol'W and upwards, as the ages of the competitors ranged from three years to agi-d.
